A product of an entrepreneurial environment, Ameerah comes from a family where being in business is the norm. While a journalist by trade – graduating cum laude in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and a minor in Asian Studies from Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green, Ky. – Ameerah desired to expand her business knowledge further. She enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., and graduated cum laude with her MBA in 2009.
Being there added to her professional repertoire such valuable skills as nonprofit management and fundraising, accounting, project supervision and strategic management. She later transitioned to being an educator when she was invited to be an Adjunct Instructor at Schenectady County Community College. There, Ameerah Cetawayo taught governmental accounting.
Ameerah nurtured her passion for business through her trade as a reporter. As a business reporter for an upstate New York newspaper, Ameerah reported daily on business issues within a six-county region writing on all things business, including banking, real estate, retail, health insurance, the Internet, e-commerce, bankruptcy court and federal civil court cases. She also is the former business reporter for the Bowling Green Daily News, where she built a specialty in small business reporting, focusing on farmers and innovative entrepreneurs, and making inroads in diverse communities, including black and Hispanic business circles.In 2008, Ameerah was recognized as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Kentucky Small Business Journalist of the Year for her “Focus on Business” column which was published weekly in the Bowling Green Daily News.
Ameerah is as a Corporate Communications Professional for one of the nation’s prominent non-profit providers of senior living options and services that empower seniors and their caregivers. She joined St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors in 2011. Additionally, she maintains a professional blog – Ameerah Amidst – which focuses on topics related to corporate communications, public relations, marketing and business.
