Mommy and Me: Ways to celebrate Mother’s Day
By SGZ Staff
Every year in May, the second Sunday is set aside for individuals to show and tell their mothers just how much she is appreciated.
Mother’s Day, while it has become a very popular commercial holiday filled with spending money on greeting cards and brand-named gifts, has always been a time to give thanks to Mom. But it is also a time to say “Thank you” to the women who have touched an individual’s life in a special way – a teacher, a mentor, an aunt or grandmother.
If you’re not sure what to do, here are some tips to customize the holiday so that it is perfect for her.
Find out her interests – As time passes, the activities mom likes to do change as well. Get to know what those activities are and spend the day doing them with her. It can be a drive or a nice outing. If she likes to garden, help her pick out flowers and plants and get in the dirt with her. If it’s cleaning the house, throw on some of her favorite tunes and pick up a mop.
Breakfast, Brunch or Dinner – When you were little, bringing mom breakfast in bed was the thing to do – a bowl of cereal and toast would do the trick. That same nostalgia can be recreated. Put together a menu of her favs and make them. Or treat her to her favorite treat – an ice cream cone or slice of cheesecake. This would sure make her smile.
Give a Spa Day – A great way to spend time and enjoy shared activities is by getting mani-pedis together. Nothing says bonding better than relaxing while your feet are soaking, coupled with picking nail colors and a bit of girl talk.
Go Digital 2.0 – If you can’t be with her, social media can sure tell her she’s still your favorite person. Tweet and FB post favorite memories you have of you and your mom or that special female. Or better yet, make a Skype or Tango “date” and just converse with each other.
Remember whatever the activity, make it memorable.
