Summertime fun– A quick guide to activities that can keep you fit during the summer
School is out and the summer is your time to relax and be a couch potato, right?
It’s time to get out and be active. The couch potato idea is one sure way to have a nonproductive summer and an unhealthy lifestyle, too. Turn off the TV and iPod, and find your local YMCA or recreational center for day camp activities that include sports, educational programs and even opportunities for you to volunteer in your community.
Have family members in the South or North? Go pay them a visit. Metropolitan areas usually call for walking and sightseeing. For example, you could visit the Statue of Liberty in New York or the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. There also are fun beach trips that could include swimming and volleyball, as well as plenty of yard space — a game of kick ball anyone?
If you own a bicycle, or if you have the option to rent one in your city, go for it! Grab a couple of your girlfriends and find a safe, scenic route to travel. It serves as a cheap mode of transportation and works out the legs well, too!
