Today we celebrate Pearl Bailey, singer and actress extraordinaire. After appearing in Vaudeville, she made her Broadway debut in St. Louis Woman in 1946. She won a Tony Award for the title role in the all-black production of Hello, Dolly! in 1968. At age 67, Pearl Bailey graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor’s degree in theology. She also served as a special ambassador to the United Nations and in 1988 received the Presidential Medal of Freedom
